Advanced Mouse Scroll Speed Measurement
Measuring your scroll speed isn't just a fun lines per second tester; it is a vital diagnostic tool to ensure the mechanical encoder inside your mouse is functioning correctly. This dashboard captures your raw hardware inputs, bypassing Windows acceleration to measure your exact Pixels Per Second (PPS) velocity.
Infinite Scroll vs. Tactile Speed
If you are using a standard gaming mouse, you will feel physical "steps" or notches as you scroll. A strong flick on a tactile wheel usually tops out around 4,000 PPS. However, mice with an infinite scroll wheel (like the Logitech G502 or MX Master) allow you to unlock the wheel. In a free-spinning mouse scroll speed test, these wheels can easily exceed 40,000 PPS and continuously scroll for over ten seconds.
Detecting Encoder Jitter and Ghost Scrolls
Inside the mouse, a mechanical wheel turns through an optical or mechanical sensor. If dust, hair, or physical wear interferes with this sensor, you will experience a "Ghost Scroll." This is when you are scrolling down, but the hardware misreads the position and sends a sudden "Up" signal, causing the screen to jump.
Our tool automatically monitors for these micro-stutters. If it detects a directional reversal faster than humanly possible (under 150 milliseconds), the Hardware Health monitor will instantly flag an Encoder Jitter Defect, letting you know it is time to clean or replace your mouse wheel.
